The Strategy of Golf

Golf is a game that is much different from other sports. With most other sports, you are playing against an opponent. In golf, you are playing against several. With most other games, if you fall behind, you can rally to make up for lost time by trying to keep the opponent at bay. In golf, when you make a mistake, that is it. All you can do is hope that your opponent makes a similar or worse mistake, or that you are at least so skillful that you can still  win, even with your mistake.

Golf is an incredibly strategic game that basically involves sinking a small white ball into a hole on a large, grassy course. There are 18 holes in a full game of golf, though a lot of people play nine holes to make the game shorter. But what does it take to win? Well, you have to complete all 18 holes in less strokes. Simple, right? Well, yes, but the brainpower and skill that is needed to win a game of professional level golf is unimaginable. We have all heard of Tiger Woods, who is said to be the equivalent of Michael Jordan on a golf course. Well, Tiger Woods knows what it takes to win games. He most likely would say that you have to be patient, and that you have to make your shots count. You only get so many strokes - the better your opponent is, the less you have. That is why you literally have to make every shot count.

So, before you take your next stroke, spend a few extra seconds getting ready. Don’t over think the shot, but try your best. You don’t want to psyche yourself out, but you do have to put a bit of pressure on yourself. There has to be pressure. How else will you actually be driven to succeed?
